Long Layers [hair stylists PLEASE answer]?

I have been reading up on how to cut your own layers and I have read two different ways to do it.

I know all the steps I would just like someone to clear this one up for me, perferably a hair dresser or someone who has done this before with success.

After you comb your hair and put it in a pony tail on the center/top of your head it says to put your head upside down and cut straight across the bottom or to which ever legnth you prefer. Another says to "twist your hair into a spiral" then cut straight across.

So do I twist my hair before I cut or just comb it straight then cut, and is there a difference between the two?

Long Layers [hair stylists PLEASE answer]?

If you truly want "Long" layers it is NOT a good idea to put your hair in a ponytail on the top of your head and cut "straight" across ... you will most likely end up with shoulder length shaggy. In all honesty I would not advise ponytail cutting as you will end up with short patches in all the wrong places especially if you twist it!! I say this because if you twist the hair you will have the hair not being consistent in where it goes, some hair will not twist around as far as other hair. You could end up with a bunch being longer or shorter than you really want thus creating patches( and that is bad enough when a stylist does it to you!!!)

You can put your hair up in a ponytail and "angle cut" to achieve the longer layers...by angle cut I mean cutting closer to the scalp at the crown( about 3" or a bit longer depending on how long you want the top to be) at the back of your head, then angling out to a tip towards your nose as you extend your arms forward.

To end up with a better "layer cut" you comb your hair from back of your head to front and angle trim from your brow out as you extend your arms. When doing the sides you would bring them from the back forward and up to the brow ( not to the side by the cheeks) Always try to end up at the same point in front of your nose above your forehead.

But then again for the "long layers" you really should not attempt this on your own as your arms reach will limit, I don`t know any stylist that do this to themselves ( that may be for good reason as they too have reverse cut issues, meaning it is tough for them to cut backwards too lol)

Long Layers [hair stylists PLEASE answer]?

I read about that pony tail thing too, I want to do it but I'm scard lol... its worth a try but only cut alittle first to see how it comes out or you can test on a barbie lol

Long Layers [hair stylists PLEASE answer]?

Go to sally beauty and get a mankin to practice on. Try it on a mankin head first, then it it turns out good/right how you want go 4 it. Or get it done professionally

Long Layers [hair stylists PLEASE answer]?

Well, my hairstylist twist my hair and then cut it. (he only grabs a few pieces at a time...he DOESN'T grab the whole hair, twist it, and then cut it...he just picks up a few small pieces.)

*edit

Sorry if i don't make any sense...and the manikin idea is good too.

Long Layers [hair stylists PLEASE answer]?

go spend 15 bucks at fantastic sams....as horrible as those stylists are....they will do a better job than you can.

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

hi last week i went to the hair dresser and she totally messed up on my hair so today i went to another one and they "fixed" it for me just to leave me looking like i have all white hair. i was so embarassed i ran to the store and bought some dark hair dye. now combing my hair ALOT of hair is breaking off and when i grab that wad of hair and pull it apart it is so easy to break and it doesnt even feel like hair anymore. can anyone help me with something to strengtehn my hair back again PLease?

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

Eeek. My class briefly talked about this happening, in Chemistry the other day.

Basically, the peroxide would have seriously damaged your hair (as you would have already known).

But there are ways to try and strengthen your hair again, except time is definitely a factor. It's not going to happen over night, so you'll have to put effort into keeping a healthy hair regime, and stay away from dyes for a long time.

That being said; oil treatments and damage control is the way to go!

VO5 Hot Oil Treatments are one of the best, in my opinion. There are many different types, including some new shampoo and conditioner strands in the deep damage control sector of the brand.

So just take a trip to the supermarket and invest in a decent amount of hot oil treatments, and some other heavy duty hair damage control products. :]

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

conditioner it real well and stop coloring it have some of the dead ends cut off.

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

I've had the same problem before...unfortunately that amount of damage is not really reverseable. All you can do now is be extra gentle, use lots of leave-in conditioner, and don't brush it while it's wet. I ended up with half a mohawk because of all the hair that broke off - hopefully yours won't be as bad, but don't worry even if it is. I actually found some new ways to do my hair as I was trying to cover it up, and it grew out pretty quickly.

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

you can try having a Kerastase閳ユ獨 Vitaciment Treatment. i've read this on an article on the net. i've included a site for you in my source.

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

your hair is lacking protein now, as our hair is made up of protein initially, you will have to go buy a protein treament, i will suggest for you a great treatment its by loreal, its in a green tub, its a lil pricey but it works superb and will stop u from all the worrying after a couple of gos. this will strenthen your hair. so for the first week i would do nothing but protein treatment, then at night before u go to bed, id buy some jo joba oil to condition also as too much protein can make ur hair to strong, apply it all over the hair this will condition it it is also the closest thing to the oil our scalp produces to keep our hair soft and strong. do the protein treatments for a week it will get rid of the jelly feel of ur hair,: wash ur hair with a nice conditioning shampoo, towel dry it then apply the loreal AGE RECHARGE protein treatment. it works very well it will put structure back into the hair shaft. there are also leave in protein treaments u can put in before ublow dry it off just for peace of mind also, id do both. id also keep your hair dark for atleast 6 months, DO NOT chop it off!!!! jus see how it all goes with the treatments first in 6 months time, after that u can start with some highlights again if u prefer lighter hair.xoxox

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

whoa. that's bad. i'd say lay off the coloring for a while. let your hair rest and recuperate. umm..... take vitamins? lol. idk.

I dyed my hair too many times and now it is breaking apart?

I once went in to a salon to die my hair a darker brown, it turned black...it took them 4 times to color my hair to the color I wanted..

it was terrible, my hair was messed up for months and months.

as soon as this happened, a mircale was given to me by my friend, I have passed on this info, as it shouldn't be kept a secret.

this will help rebuild your hair, and get it back to healthy...

everytime I do it, it feels like baby's hair, my friends and I starting call this hair crack cause it's the best.

do this absolutely!

Here you go! I have already gotten like a million best answers for this, and my friends call this hair crack. So, don't pass this up!

FOR THICK AND THIN HAIR

1. Warm up some olive oil in the microwave (not too hot, luke warm, and the purer the olive oil the better.)

2. Apply it all over your hair. Apply it to dry hair. Especially pay attention to the ends.

3. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap. (This is because it does get a little drippy sometimes).

4. Place a towel around your neck. (Same reason as above.)

5. Leave in for an hour.

6. Shampoo and condition it out. (Make sure not to slip in the shower, that stuff is slippery.

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIN HAIR

Use coconut oil, and do the same as above. (It's not as drippy as olive oil though.) Coconut oil isn't really great for people with thick hair. It tends to make thick hair a little tangled and little greasy. So people with thin hair only!

Do this either once a week or every other week.

I have gotten so many people hooked on this, it should be illegal.

Definetly do this and tell me how it works!

What product should one use on short, thick, naturally curly/wavy hair?

My brother's hair poofs and gets frizzy when he combs it when it's dry, and I promised to buy him something to put in it that would make it stay normal. His hair is quite curly and about three inches long. I'm sure he'd prefer something that doesn't require a lot of effort in the morning. Suggestions please?

What product should one use on short, thick, naturally curly/wavy hair?

Redken has the best hair products for frizzy hair. Particulary their shampoo and conditioner. I have thick, wavy hair that gets frizzy and Redken is the best brand I have used.

What product should one use on short, thick, naturally curly/wavy hair?

I suggest ENJOY Shaping Lotion. I have curly hair myself, and it gets frizzy. It works great, leaves hair soft feeling, not all producty but keeps it under control and tamed. It is a professional product so you may have to talk to your stylist. But any item that doesn't have alcohol is good. You don't want to dry out the hair anymore for more frizzies. If you can't find Enjoys Shaping Lotion. Look for something that says, control, tames frizzies, smooths. Those will help control it. GOOD LUCK

What product should one use on short, thick, naturally curly/wavy hair?

u can try some hair gel!

what type of hair is it? relaxed or natural?

i use redken 25. sometimes

it keeps it in places so that it wont freeze when its foggy muggy outside

Why does my hair part all over?

I've got natural curly hair. Everytime I comb my hair back to get the "Pompadour" hair style, my hair messes up and parts on both sides of my head. Why?

I wash my hair every day. I don't put gels or sprays in my hair, but I always put a dab of Brylcreem. (I'm Rockabilly)

I'

Why does my hair part all over?

They are called cowlicks.

The difficult thing about cowlicks is that this is the way the hair grows, so no matter what you do, it will only be a 閳ユ涪emporary閳?solution. Unfortunately, there is nothing to make them 閳ユ笀o away閳? You can only manage them, and find a stylist who can help you create a style to make them work to your advantage (or at least minimize the detriment).

Why does my hair part all over?

If you used to part your hair in those places all the time, then that's why. If you part your hair in one place so many times, your hair is used to being parted that way, so it always parts that way if you don't force it.

Help with my hair!?

Try Garnier Fructis "Length and Strength"

For hard-to-grow-long hair. You'll love it. And it smells delicious too!

Help with my hair!?

Hi!!

My advice 2 you is 2 STOP straightening your hair. That is what is damaging your hair very badly. Also, go 2 your hairstylist and get your hair trimmed. That will get rid of most of the split ends. Then ask the stylist what the best shampoo and conditioner is for damaged hair. Biolage is a very good shampoo and conditioner. It's a little pricey, but it's well worth it if your want to get your hair back to good health. Good Luck and I hoped I helped!
