I have a 4 (almost 5) year old daughter.

Just my luck that she inherited her fathers hair genes.

Im wondering if 5 years old is too your to perm her hair.

I got my first perm at like 6 or 7, because my hair was long and thick like rudy's on the cosby's!!

She has pretty long hair and I dont know how to press or warm comb her hair, and im afraid of burning it out.

Should I jus try pressing (warm combing) it or give her a mild perm (relaxer)

How old were you when you needed to get a perm.

no chemicals!!!! her pores in the scalp are still quite sensitive/open....i would not do a chemical...i have seen so many tragedies....once u start with the chemicals....u must continue

~take her to a professional to get it hot combed

~be mindful that you are altering her hair structure / chemistry of the follicles the moment u hit it with a relaxer.....and if this is her first relaxer...u can really do some damage....u might not even know how her hair will fare thru the application.....everyone's hair is different.... i wouldn't do it.

~buy a hot comb...one with a plug that has to be PLUGGED IN to a socket.....do not fall for the ones that u need to heat yourself...you will not be able to control the heat/temperature and can burn her accidentally.

~invest in a flat iron~with ceramic plates to "go over" the straightened hair once it has been hot combed for ongoing maintenance

Plz be careful....my goddaughter is almost bald because of a relative who "had it up to here with her thick hair". and they went rushing into a relaxer.....now she just about has none....so what do they do? they cover up the boo-boo with fake hair/braids that are too tight....and essentially are pulling out her new growth...

no dont perm her hair she's too young just do the old fashion way and use oil and a straightening comb that will make her hair grow better and healthier

Children get perms as young as four. If she has long hair and it's not coarse don't ruin her hair with a perm. I had thick coarse hair that could break a comb and my mother finnaly put me out of my misery when i was 12. And now im 13. Don't press her hair alot either or you will damage it

I have three boys (middle one is five) so I don't know what you are going through but I think you should wait on the perm and just warm comb her hair. I am 27 and I think I was about 7 when I got my first relaxer. My sister was also seven (she is twenty one) and I remember how long her hair was before the perm. I am not sure the reason and if it was because of her age or not but I remember that the perm did damage her hair and you should wait with your daughter.

You can perm at a young age. They have perms you can buy now for kids but just to be on the safe side I would take her to a shop for the first time so they can teach you the do's and don't. Plus pressing sucks. You know you'll burn that girl. (just our mom's did us. I know. but somethings don't need to be passed down.)

well i had my 1st perm when i was about 7 but i think that 5 is a little early . if her hair is too hard to manage without the perm than use a kiddie perm with no lye or chemicals.

you can buy it in CVS, Rite Aid..etc..
