Major hair static problem, anything that can help?

I have a huge static problem with my hair, it's fairly long, i'd hate to cut it anymore than i already have, but its impossible to brush/comb, the moment i run a brush/comb through it, bits of hair fly out all over the place, making it impossible to to put into high ponytails, or even just to leave down, as the wild flying hairs just get tangled.......

my mother recommended fabric softener sheets, which i found work very well, but the problem is, it only works for up to 1 hour, or until the next time i runa comb through it, and it leaves such a strong scent.........

anyone know of some sort of shampoo or conditioner designed to treat static-ey hair? thanks ^_^

try using a leave-in conditioner. the added moisture and oil should help tame it a little. i have some clients with this same problem. i also recommend the fabric sheets (it really does work), but you're right...its just a temporary fix. a leave-in conditioner should help. and Bounce has an unscented product...just make sure you carry a few in your purse for after you brush you rhair

try a glossing balm

its a clear liquid that is thicker than water.

it has silicone as an ingredient and you put it on dry hair and leave it in.

For years I had the same problem. Since I have started using Garnier fructis shampoo and conditioner (no particular one) I haven't had the static problem once and we heat with wood over the winter which makes the house very dry.

I also tried spraying a bit of static guard on my hair brush which used to help a bit, but had about the same effect as the dryer sheets had for you.

It's overly dry conditions that cause this, so I'm guessing you are in a dry climate. Definitely try a conditioner, something meant for your hair type (read the labels, you can get them for thick, thin, dry, damaged, etc...different types of hair), or you can also buy a finishing silicone gel, and you use a VERY small amount on your hands and just smooth it over dry, styled hair. Works like a charm.

I have curly hair and it goes frizzy when brushed etc. What I do is to get some conditioner that is made for dry hair, it has extra moisterisers in it. Leave it in your hair a minute or so longer than you normally would then rinse. Hopefully you will find it makes the hair a little heavier and it will sit better.

I have tried a product called Frizz Ease which is quite good but depends where you live as to if you can get it or not. Any conditioner made for dry hair should work.

Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner are key as well.

Hello, well the problem is probably not your shampoo or conditioner, it is probably the dryness of the air in the area that you live. When the air lacks moisture, and friction occurrs it creates static. I don't know if you have a humidifier, but you can purchase one at Wal-mart fairly cheap(under $20).There is a cool mist or steam vaporizer, either should help. I would suggest that first. Try running it in your home at night, but be sure not to run it unless you are home. I would also try using the fabric softner sheets in your dryer with your clothing to help prevent static in them, which will transfer to your hair when you brush or comb it. Liquid fabric softner in with your clothes when you wash will work well too. I don't know of any shampoos or conditioners that are made for this, as that is not what causes it. The air in your home is too dry, that is more than likely what is causing your static problem. Good Luck sweetie, I hope this helps.

Try using Sunsilk Anti-flat conditioner or Sunsilk Straighten-Up 24/7 Creme. It'll get rid of static and it leaves a really nice, light fragrance.
