Make sure your hair is totally dry and the hot comb is the correct temperature. Be careful when you get close to the scalp.

Same way you would do it with a flat iron, just heat it up put some Vaseline or pressing oil on your hair, grease what ever you choose and run it through your hair like a comb, making sure it get close to the roots. Just make sure you wipe it off with a damp rag before you let it touch your hair, because if its too hot it will fry and the you'll end up with short white frizzes. that take forever to go away.

There are 2ways.. there are the (1)electric hot combs or the (2)traditional hot comb.

1-the electric one is simple. Buy the pressing lotion and apply to hair. Section hair off into smaller parts %26amp; comb through being careful to get as close to scalp as possible but not actually touching it.

2- The tradional hot comb is more complicated %26amp; it is better if u have help. Still apply pressing lotion. Hair grease can work too. U just need 2make sure that your hair isn't dry or else it would get damaged. The cream/hair grease also helps 2get the hair even straighter becuase of the heat the comb applies.

Place comb directly into open fire [preferable a gas stove] leave it there for a min or 2. Section off hair %26amp;then take comb off the heat. Let it cool for a couple seconds[around 20] %26amp;then blow it to make sure it's cool. Comb through hair. You will hear a hissing sound %26amp;may see steam coming out of your hair. No worries your hair won't burn off[unless the comb is too hot]. The hissing sound is becuase of the hair grease/pressing cream u put in your hair getting really hott %26amp;straightening the hair out.

JUST MAKE SURE : 1)your hair isn't dry that it is well moisturised with grease or pressing cream

2)the comb isn't too hot becuase your hair would burn off

3)u put your hair into small sections becuase too big a section can cause compications

I've had equal success with both. Are you using an electric one? Those are safer because the temp can be easily controlled, but it can still burn. I usually test the heat by holding the iron to a paper towel for a couple seconds. If it singes, then it's much too hot for your hair.
