How much hair breakage is normal?

I have afro- carribean relaxed hair. Lately... daily when I comb my hair I get about 10- 20 broken pieces of hair. I also see about 1- 5 shed hairs a day. It doesnt look like a lot of breakage.. but my hair does break a bit when its handled.

I started washing my hair 2-3 times a week.. maybe I dried out my hair? Whats going on?

Nope, its normal. I have afro-carribean relaxed hair too and when i comb my hair there is breakage also. But recently the breakage stopped becuase I did the following things:

1. I trimmed my hair every 6 weeks

2. Washed hair once every 2 weeks

3. Perm hair once every 6-8 weeks

4. Add african-pride moisterizers on the ends of my hair to keep them from breaking out so much, then I apply it to the root and work my way down.

5. I try to keep my hair rowed down so I don' ahve the stress of combing my ahir everyday and breaking ends.

Oh and the human hair looses 60-100 strands of hair EVERYDAY so its normal. Its healthy for your hair to shed

First let me ask.. Are you under ANY kind of stress? If you answered yes to that question then that "could be" part of your breakage problem. I'm not a dr. but I do see dr's myself and have LOTS of hair breakage and alot of mine is due to stress and also a hereditary issue that I have recently developed. I hope this helps some.

no hair breakage is normal

Your hair must really dry...try conditioning it a lot more...condtioning closes up the hair, because when you shampoo it, it opens up the hair follicules (grammer check?)

It could also depend on the strenght of the relaxer. Also if your putting your hair in hair ties often. It is also normal to lose 50 -100 hairs a day.

The shedding is actually very minimal because shedding is a normal process and the breakage is probably due to overlapping relaxers. So keep it conditioned.
