Is it okay to comb and then twist my curly hair when it's wet?

While my hair is still wet from the shower, I apply a light oil and some mousse. Then I take the sections and twist them tightly around my finger to make ringlets instead of the natural kind of loose "S" pattern my hair goes into.

I've noticed that each time I do a ringlet, I end up pulling out about 3 - 6 strands of hair.

When I wash my hair every two to three days, I also noticed that I there's maybe 100 - 150 strands going down the drain.

Is that okay?

WHen twisting them into ringlets try to be less "tight" and just wrap them gently, this will prevent breaking of your hair and will stop in what seems to be you pulling out 3 to 6 pioeces of hair. Also as for washing, it is natural that people with curly hair tend to "shed" if you will, more of their hair but try to limit how often and how vigorously you brush your hair as to keep from losing all of it! Good luck!

I do the same thing with my curly hair. but mine does not fall out. maybe u should condition more and shampoo less. and dont brush harshly. when u brush ur hair put it into section and then brush it you wont pull out so much hair.

yes, thats a very normal amount of hairloss.

Twisting your hair when when makes it susceptible to breakage- which is not healthy for your hair. If you continue to do this styling, be gentle with your hair and consider using products that strengthen your hair so you are less likley to damage it.

The average woman looses between 90-100 hairs a day, so don't sweat it! Unless you are loosing excessive amounts (like chunks of hair or see bald spots), it's very likley nothing is wrong. Remember that other factors like stress may contribute to hair loss, but you sound fine.

You should never comb/brush your hair when it's wet, with the exception of a wide tooth comb.

(hair is very fragile when wet and prone to breakage when using other kinds of combs/brushes)

It is actually typical for a woman to lose 60-100 hairs per day. (in approximation)

No need to worry too much. :)

Combing your hair while it's wet is pretty risky - your hair is at its most vulnerability when wet. The best way to comb it would be to start from the ends and slowly go up to the roots, but since you lose so much hair, you shouldn't comb it while it's wet. Try brushing it before taking a shower - this also helps the shampoo and conditioner to cover your whole hair. Go to a dermatologist to see if the shampoo/conditioner/mousse is not suitable for your skin and hair - this might be one of the main causes. Also, don't be too harsh with the ringlets - although I'm sure you're not ;)
